Sarah Hector - Poem

Exploding Universe
i stepped on an exploding universe today
tiny worlds crushed beneath my Docs
i found a young one in my room
interstellar dust to be swept away

infinite space in a limited place
with what wonder did I brush one out of my hair
  yesterday, thinking it a fly
infinite futures that shall be erased

with a wave of my hand, gone
  judged unworthy to continue on
  by arbitrary asceticism
  contemptible ignorance of phenomenon

how tossed away and brushed aside?
i saw a universe trapped in a tree
its worlds still circling stilled suns
by what laws do they abide

  to contain infinity in branches?
  eternity written in the stars
seared there by cold buring heat
not in our time, not in our masses
