gravity twenty one, editor's desk

1:38 pm my time, July 23 (Key West minus one). On the CD player, R.E.M., Life's Rich Pageant. 20 safely tucked into the backissue directory, 21 uploaded except for this page.

I was thinking today while I cleaned the dishes that I never expected Gravity to last this long - figured I'd probably drag out three or five issues then out. The thing has taken on a life of its own. Gravity welcomed its 10,000th new reader this month, the month of its two year anniversary. Thanks, folks.

So, what comes next? There's the book of course, and now an annual contest. Gravity will keep going.

(song break - Cuyahoga)

But Jennifer Ley, in the inaugural issue of Perihelion has gotten me to thinking about the future of litzines on the web and their - our - relationship with print outlets. We won't get into it here, since I still have laundry to do, but watch this space for new developments after the anthology is released and the contest winners announced.

Issue 21 welcomes CK Tower, Larry Griffin, Thomas Fortenberry, Lee Moskow and Mike Whitney to these pages. Smaller issue this time, but loaded. Shari Willadson takes my breath away again this ish.

I'll be out of the office until August first, so won't start be returning email until then.

All peace,

JC, 7/98
