Dancing Bear - Two Poems

Thinking of You
mine is the solitude of 5 am
I think of you
waiting
waiting for me to move
a phone call, a letter, something

that says I care
I care not to although I want to
you are the sleep in my eyes

shock of sunrise
starting a reluctant engine
and I drive on away

I desire your touch, again
fear it too
I would stay with you
till our hearts die in their cages

The Fruits of Babylon
Dark forgotten fruit
Rotting
on hard cold stone
Juice
fermenting
in the quiet corners
Nebuchadnezzar
carelessly crushing ripe fruit
under an meticulously clean sandal foot
into the cracked stone and desert sand
When you realize
what you have done
it will already be too late
The tears
juice and blood
will only be mud for a moment
on the crumbling cracked floors
of a lost city
