how can you measure the sky          how I wish to know you
with ribbons of sea grass            who prefers to stare out at waves
                                     
how can you fill oceans              how I dream to touch this fire
in a wine glass                      your hair against wind
                                      
how can you paint the rivers         how I live to see moonlight
with a pale green daffodil           shine from the smoothness of your skin
                                     
how can you sleep                    how I came to the doorway of your
heart
on a bed of thistles                 just to hold you close to me
                                    
how can you light the night          how I long to kiss your lips
with one firefly                     full of questions for me
                                               
how can you love                     how I wait to love you

I refuse to write a single love poem	I refuse to read your love poetry
to anyone else but you			to anyone else but me
I'm willing to put up with		I put up with your
the distracting				distractions
exhibitionist requirements		your showing off
of self display				I know
But my essence				but the poetry you write me
from you				is real, from your heart
cannot willingly stray			you love me
Nor in these shallows			I wait words
satisfied wade				you will write to me
No matter how fetchingly		Flirt with them
flirtation begs me			but I see in your eyes
play					only me
And how I answer			No questions, Love
often					tease and play me
teasingly and in			but I am serious
dolce tone				we love
I'll not be swayed			each other
from your molten coils			touch the other to heat
for long				our soul
You are still				It’s you, Love
my scissors				with all the games
paper					charades
stone					notes
tree					hide
snake					and seek
furnace					hop scotch
and you give sweet ache			I’ll always be yours 
A daft friendliness			my sweet loving
suggesting				partner
that together we make			a bond for life
A name					a kiss eternal
