Catherine Farid - Poem

Scrambling
I am a broken citizen

a victim of technology
watching the last vestiges of humanity flush
down the vortex of MTV, CNN, Wired Magazine and the Net

the television reports
the last sightings and the slow speed Bronco chase
Paris tunnel after dark
cable scrambler on-
I get free Playboy

the radio plays a song
over government sponsored-free bandwidth
they are trying to dumb us down
I am telling you this to save you

let's find our own sine wave
an analog graph of human expression
our own way of talking

let's find a quiet little corner
of a world too full of chatter
and let the signals pass through us
and make friends with the sky again
