S amantha Carter - Two Poems

My Dream

I am traveling down the ocean and,
I hear the water crashing far beyond me,
I park along the road to realize I am somewhere
I have been before.
and I am searching for eternity.
Something that would last.
I fly up to the top of a palm tree
and I see the sea is overlooking me.
I am looking for something perfect.
When I come to understand
the monkey is telling me it's okay not to cry.
Because nothing's perfect out there in the world.
So I feel myself dying inside, but
the monkey taked my hand and carries me to a distant
land where I can be alone.

Remembering yesterdays

As the rain patters softly
against the damp ground
I kick back lazily
watching my worlds go 'round.
I feel the soothing warmth
of good ol' yesterdays
and the stabbing pain
of tomorrows coming plays.
I gaze happily back
to the life I once had,
then I see my future unfolding
in the city that makes me so sad.
I remember the warm summer
nights that set my soul at ease,
and I'll ask once again,
" Mommy can we go home please? "
